Sustainability

Certified sustainability through the Land Green Seal

Hardly any other form of vacation comes as close to the topic of sustainability as a vacation in the countryside. There, where life takes place not in front of the TV, but in front of the door. Where we are reminded that the milk does not come from the refrigerator.

What are we doing for sustainability?

Use of regional materials: Mainly wood from our own forest, which was cut into boards with the hiking saw at the farm: Birch in the Moarhaus, elm in the Zuhaus and in the castle, Rauriser stone in the castle and Moarhaus, much scrap wood from old stock was recycled. Upcycling is lived with us!

Garbage recycling: we recycle the garbage extensively, please help us to do so, also the coffee tabs are collected and recycled

Plastic avoidance: buying plastic bottles is not necessary! Please drink our own mountain spring water and, if necessary, turn the water into mineral water. There is also a soda stream in each apartment, where we change the cartridges free of charge if necessary. We sell homemade syrups on site such as cola/golden balm/lemon balm and elderberry syrup, then even the kids can fizz their healthy soda. In addition, you save money, because the natural syrups without additives are 7x dilutable.

Corn charcoal: You are welcome to use our outdoor grill or the grill hut in rainy weather and in the transitional season and winter at any time without a guilty conscience. We like to heat you up. For this we use sustainable corn charcoal, which is actually a waste product. No rainforest has to be cut down for this!

Renewable energy: We do not heat oil or gas, we heat with sustainable biomass, our own wood chips from our forest, here the damaged wood is recycled: Biowärme Saalhof – Schloss Saalhof

Energy self-sufficient thanks to electricity from our own photovoltaic system: We are almost energy self-sufficient, solar panels are installed on all barn roofs, on the barn and on the heating plant. In addition, the solar power can be stored in several storage facilities. So in the event of a blackout, we’re still covered.

Cleaning with disinfecting steam devices instead of toxic household cleaners

Products from the farm: Buy regional and so do our products: Eggs, bacon, cheese, jams, honey, schnapps: Our products – Schloss Saalhof

Extensive agriculture: We manage our farm including the huge alpine pasture extensively in harmony with nature, the circular economy is respected, which means that no chemical fertilizers are used. Our goal is high quality products without mass production.

Free use of public transportation in the entire Pinzgau from May 1 – October 31 with the guest card

Charging station for electric cars is available directly at the farm
