At our Schloss Saalhof, you’ll experience a slightly different farm holiday in Saalbach and Zell am See-Kaprun, because the stables and meadows are located on the vast, magnificent grounds of one of the most beautiful castles in the Salzburg region. You and your children canexperience the farm together in a variety of ways.
Since 2015, we – the Rieder family – have been running the Schloss Saalhof farm. Since then, we have focused on dairy farming, near-natural alpine farming, forestry, direct marketing and farm vacations.
Our farm offers space for moments of relaxation, enjoyable hours, meaningful action and work. It is the starting point for our diverse products and our little paradise, which we are happy to share with our guests. Here we live our dream and enjoy life on the farm, in the fields, in contact with nature and the animals.
Culinary delights and well-being
Schloss Saalhof has been awarded four flowers for high quality and comfortable well-being. Enjoy your breakfast table in your own apartment with our products from the farm as a self-caterer. Many of the products can be purchased. Sample the delicious evening menus in cooperation with our neighboring partner restaurant and discover the benefits of the region to the full. Barbecue evenings in the gazebo or in the barbecue hut promise cozy conviviality.
The farm
Our organic farm is home to a number of different animals: cattle (dairy cows and calves), pigs, rabbits, goats, chickens and our cat Mitzi. They all look forward to being fed and petted.
The chickens provide us with breakfast eggs, our goats serve as living lawnmowers and the cows provide us with valuable manure for our meadows and are the basis of our diet (meat, milk). We treat our animals with great respect. They are allowed to live their freedom, have space on their pastures and in the paddock and enjoy the best feed from our farm.
Between the children’s program, joint farm activities and excursions to our original alpine hut, which is only accessible on touring skis in winter, we have no room for boredom. During the Salzburg Harvest Festival from the end of August to the end of October, you can experience rural customs as part of many atmospheric events.

Our farm is home to cattle, dairy cows, calves, rabbits, goats, chickens, cats, and—depending on the season—even more farm animals. Children can get up close and personal with our animals, watch them, pet them, and learn about daily life on the farm. For children in particular, this is often one of the best vacation experiences.
Yes, children are welcome to experience a bit of farm life here. We are an authentic, full-time working farm. That means we make our living from farming, and we don’t just do it as a hobby, like at farmstay hotels. Guests are welcome to observe our work processes and, where appropriate, lend a hand. Depending on the season and daily life on the farm, there’s always something new to discover or a hand to lend. Whether you want to watch and pet the animals, collect eggs, help herd the cows into the barn each day, get a whiff of the barn air, watch the milking, help muck out the barn if you’d like, or simply see how life on the farm works: With us, a farm vacation comes alive and feels real.
With us, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast in the comfort of your own apartment. Many guests start their day with fresh products from the farm, such as milk, eggs, jams, honey, or other regional delicacies. We also offer a daily bread roll delivery service so you can start your vacation day on a relaxed note.
For many guests, our farm-fresh products are simply part of their vacation. At Schloss Saalhof, various farm-fresh products are made and sold on-site in the small self-service farm shop. The farm store’s selection includes fresh eggs from happy chickens, homemade jams (at least 14 different varieties) made from local fruits, natural mountain honey straight from a neighboring beekeeper, savory cheeses made on-site, traditional bacon made according to a family recipe, premium schnapps and fine liqueurs, as well as fruity syrups for refreshing drinks. The farm store is designed as a self-service store, so guests and visitors can shop around the clock. As a small gift to our guests, you can get free milk every evening from 6:15 to 7:00 p.m. by bringing your own milk jug to the barn. By popular request, chilled beer, wine, sparkling wine, and coffee pods are also available for purchase for a small fee to cover costs. This makes a farm vacation in Salzburg feel even more authentic.
